Some hobbies tend to be very expensive because they involve
collecting “rare” or “authentic” merchandise. Membership in hobby clubs can be
expensive but admission at hobby and craft shows is usually free or relatively
cheap. Attending craft and hobby shows allows troubled consumers to continue
their enthusiasm for their interests and may even serve as encouragement to
pursue their goal of becoming debt free so they can pursue their interest more.
However, hobby and craft enthusiasts must control discretionary spending at
hobby and craft shows.
