Budget > Cost Cutting Ideas > Books &
Medical Costs
Books, Newspapers, Subscriptions - Analyze incoming mail. Are you paying for periodicals that
you no longer read or utilize? Watch out for passive prescription practices
through which magazines are sent and you are billed, despite the fact that you
never wanted or requested them. Some magazines employ automatic renewal
practices. If you no longer want to subscribe to a magazine, call to cancel
when it is up for renewal. Try to avoid being enticed by newspaper flyers,
magazine advertisements or mail order catalogs.
Medical Insurance - Double check to be sure you are not footing the bill for an
expense that the Health Care Provider should be covering. When in doubt, appeal
a denial on health care coverage. Be proactive, preventative medicine may save
a lot of money in the long run.
Drugs and Medical Supplies - Buy generic drugs. Buy over the counter medicines. If your
employer offers a flexible spending account or “cafeteria plan,” take advantage
of it because you can pay for health care costs out of pre-tax income.
Preventative health measures can save a lot of money in the long run.
