Food - Use coupons or take advantage of store sales. Use a grocery
store discount card if the store offers one. Make price comparisons from store
to store but remember to stick to the list of necessities that you created
before going shopping. Don't be enticed by sales on discretionary items that
you do not need. You may be able to benefit by purchasing items in bulk stores,
especially if you have to provide for a family. Be careful, bulk purchasing is
not always the most cost effective so shop the prices. Non-perishable items can
be purchased in bulk and stored in your pantry or freezer. Don’t be afraid to
buy while the buying is good as long as you know that you have enough storage
room and will eventually use the food. Bulk purchasing is especially effective
with canned and non-perishable goods. Cut back on the number of times that you
eat out. “Brown bag” lunches are an option for the serious cost cutter.
Although frozen meals and snacks are very convenient, they are expensive
because of the high costs of packaging and distribution.
Clothes - Search for end of season markdowns and irregulars that have
imperfections that are not noticeable. “Hand me downs are a great way of
cutting costs on children’s clothes. Outlet shopping may be cheaper, but price
shop them carefully because prices are not always lower at outlets.
