Budget > Cost Cutting Ideas > Vacations
Vacations - Everybody needs a break but taking a vacation does not mean
that you have to take a break from cost cutting. Analyze your entertainment and
vacation expenses. Avoid paying long term for a vacation that only lasts for a
relatively short period of time. Try to travel to somewhere cheaper or closer
that still gives the same desired “get away” that you need. Travel clubs and
web sites often offer favorable discounts on hotel and airfare. It may be worth
joining one if you travel a lot. Take advantage hotel promotions. It is best to
travel during off-peak times of the year or during weekdays when flights are
cheaper. You can make your vacation a budgeting goal by setting aside a portion
of every paycheck until the vacation is paid for. Bring snacks and lunches
while you travel to cut down on food stops. If you are in another country, know
the exchange rate so you do not pay more than you think on purchases. If you do
a lot of domestic travel, state welcome centers offer travel brochures that
include lodging and food discounts.
